Process

The President has assigned you the task of determining whether global warming is a real scientific phenomenon that needs to be addressed or if nothing needs to be done because it isn't a real issue.

Step 1

The class will be divided into 4 groups --

Group 1 will investigate the "pro sites" below and find information on the causes of global warming.

Group 2 will investigate the "pro sites" below and find information on the effects of global warming.

Group 3 will examine the "con sites" below and report to the class why some people think that global warming is not a real problem. What are the actual causes of global warming?

Group 4 will explore the "con sites" below and find out why the issue of global warming is likely a business or economic issue, not actually an environmental issue.

Each group will gather as much information as possible from the websites provided and try to present information from each side's pespectives as accurately as possible. If time permits, you may use google.com to search for more information on the issue.

Think about these questions as you gather information:

1. Do serious global warming problems exist on earth?

2. Who do you think is the main culprit for global warming?

3. Will global warming become a major threat to earth?

4. Should immediate measures against global warming be taken?

Step 2

Your will work in group of 4 and will study and report on issues related to global warming.  You will become an expert on global warming by investigating the resources provided below.

As a group, discuss the major issues your group needs to present as its point-of-view. Even if you don’t all agree on how to proceed, you must reach a consensus on what and how to present to the class. Decide what action, if any, the President should take based on the position you recommend.

Create a powerpoint presentation which gives the policy you recommend and provides supporting information.
